 COZ18 - Island Tour & Folkloric Show   (3.5 hrs) - 2011
Cozumel, the largest island in the Mexican Caribbean rich in culture and history is waiting for you to explore her interesting, colorful past and charming present as the most important cruise ship destination! You will be greeted at the pier by your guide and then board an air-conditioned motor coach. Your guide will give you an interesting narration of the largest inhabited island of Mexico and its background. Your first stop is the oldest settlement on the island, el Cedral. Learn about the ancient history of the Mayan culture that first inhibited this tiny village where historians think the first catholic mass was held in the American continent. Next, continue around the southern tip of the island to the eastside where you will see the untamed beaches on your way to el mirador, a popular natural limestone formation for a photo opportunity and to stretch your legs. Your trip then takes you to the hacienda museum for a sample of folkloric regional dances, performed by professional artists with full costumes. Level of difficulty: difficult  Combine excitement with culture, this excursion will give you the best of both. This is a unique ATV adventure that leads you through the Cozumel jungle to ancient Mayan holy grounds! Your guide will take you from the pier via bus or van to the jungle welcome station where you will find your single person 250cc all terrain vehicles (ATV) and gear (helmet, goggles and a complimentary souvenir bandana). The journey begins with a safety briefing and then your guide leads you through the winding, narrow jungle paths full of tropical vegetation, birds and other native creatures. Along the way, you will visit some partially excavated Mayan ruins, let your guide give you an introduction to this magnificent ancient culture and learn about some of the history of this long abandoned civilization on your thrilling ATV adventure. After a short tender ride to Playa Del Carmen, your guide will take you to an air-conditioned motor coach for a scenic and informative drive to Tulum. Once there, your guide will escort you through the ruins giving a complete narration along the way. See over 60 restored temples and some of the mysterious hieroglyphic writings still visible today. Visit the temple of the frescos famous for the detailed carved figures and original paints.
