Discover a firm Norwegian favourite

Ready for a breath of pure, Norwegian air?

Then it's time to visit the lively, lovely city of Bergen. This jewel of a place is set among seven sweeping hills and, naturally, some stunning fjords. Bergen is a lively university town, steeped in culture. The city is pleasantly compact, great for easy, accessible sightseeing, with an attractive warren of cobbled streets punctuated with leafy, green and areas perfect for rest and relaxation. Norway is expensive - that's why a cruise is such a great way to travel here - but you won't regret a seafood lunch here in Bergen where fabulous fish and shell fish come straight off the boats to your table.

If you love the great outdoors, Norway – and Bergen in particular - is the ideal holiday spot for you. Nature-lovers should have their walking boots at the ready, join us on a special trekking tour package that takes in the harbour town of Bryggen with its pretty wooden buildings and a forest hike, all rounded off with a photo opportunity and panoramic view from Floein Mount.

Port average temperature

Bergen features a temperate oceanic climate with relatively mild winters and cool summers. Despite being so far north, Bergen's weather is relatively mild. In the winter, Bergen is one of the warmest cities in Norway, thanks to the Gulf Stream. The city is located further north than St. Petersburg, yet winters are much warmer in Bergen than St. Petersburg. Bergen experiences plentiful rainfall, with annual precipitation measuring 2,250 mm on average. This is because the city is surrounded by mountains that cause moist North Atlantic air to undergo orographic lift, which yields abundant rainfall. Rain fell every day between 29 October 2006 and 21 January 2007, 85 consecutive days.

In Bergen, precipitation is plentiful and heavy rain can happen at any time of the year. The highest temperature ever recorded was 31.8 °C, a record that dates back to 1947. The lowest ever recorded is -16.3 °C, in 1987. The high precipitation is often used in the marketing of the city, and figures to a degree on postcards sold in the city. For a period of time there were umbrella vending machines in the city, but these did not turn out to be a success.

The temperate figures shown are based on monthly average weather conditions for the selected port. Weather data is not real-time, and sometimes no data is shown for a specific date, month or port in general.

 BER08 - BERGEN BY LAND AND SEA ( approximate 3,5 hours ) - 2012
Level of difficulty: moderate  Limited Availability  This comprehensive tour will give you a really thorough introduction to Bergen, a lovely city that nestles between the sea and the mountains. Having reached its commercial peak in 1100 through a profitable trade of dried cod, Bergen continued to flourish as the main trade centre in Norway. Its historic past can be seen at the German pier and in Bryggen, a traditional area with fine examples of Hanseatic buildings and gabled wooden houses. The unglamorous days of the cod trade have been left behind, as today this area has been reincarnated as a fashionable hub, with trendy restaurants, tasteful souvenir shops and inviting pubs. However, one can still stroll through this historic district and gain a sense of what it was like to live here during the Middle Ages. After the walking tour we will board the bus for a 1-hour drive through Bergen and the surrounding area before boarding a ferry for a relaxing cruise around the Bergen archipelago and along Lysoy Fjord. On this scenic one and half hour-long cruise you can view Bergen from a different perspective and fully experience the delights of this attractive town and its idyllic setting
Please note: the order of the visits may vary: some groups will start the itinerary by boat and return to the pier by bus. This tour is not suitable for guests with mobility problems or in a wheelchair.
