FLA01 - STALHEIM & UNDREDAL ( approximate 3,5 hours ) - 2012
Starting from the pier in Flåm we will drive to the village of Gudvangen where we take a short break before continuing through a narrow valley before reaching Stalheim. Here we will admire one of the most breathtaking views in Norway and enjoy refreshments in the form of pastry and coffee. We will drive back down the valley into the tiny village of Undredal where you will see the local little wooden church, one of the smallest churches in Norway. FLA02 - THE SNOW ROAD TO LÆRDAL - Duration: approx. 5.5 hours - 2012
The tour begins at Flåm pier and we will drive along the fjord to the village of Aurland. From here, through the longest tunnel in the world, we will continue our journey to Lærdal. The historic heart of Lærdal village is made up of heritage buildings dating back to the XVIII century. Lærdal is renowned for its excellent salmon fishing, with the Lærdal river known as the “Queen of the Salmon Rivers”. You will have free time to spend in the village, with time for a coffee break before we return to Flåm along the Snow Road. This takes us high up in the mountains, 1.309 metres above sea level. There will be a short break along the way before we return back to the port. FLA03 - WATERFALLS & THE WHITE CAVE ( approximate 3,5 hours ) - 2012
After leaving the pier this excursion takes you, through a tunnel, to the village of Gudvangen where we will continue up the Stalheim Valley and on to Tvindefossen Waterfalls where we will stop for sightseeing. “Tvinde” comes from an old Norwegian word meaning “double”; as there are actually two waterfalls that cascade next to each other. We will drive on through more tunnels to the White Cave of Gudvangen where we will trek through the deep caves and along underground pools, ending the visit with coffee in one of the cave chambers. FLA04 - NORWEGIAN WATERFALLS & DRAMATIC SCENERIES BY TRAIN - Duration: approx. 6 hours, lunch included. - 2012
Once you are prepared for the steep roads and mountain tunnels of this region, you can sit back and enjoy the ride through spectacular countryside. Leaving the port of Flåm we will traverse a long tunnel which takes us to Gudvangen, and the coach will climb through the steep, narrow Stalheim valley. We will travel up the mountain roads, with some sharp bends, to reach the Sivlefossen Waterfalls. We will stop at the Tvindefossen waterfalls, a twin cascade of two fabulous falls. The excursion continues to the town of Voss, prettily located on the Vangvatnet Lake. We will board a train to continue our outing across a range of stunning natural landscapes, before reaching Myrdal. Here, at 867 metres above sea level, we will change trains and continue down the breathtaking Flåm valley, travelling on the world famous Flåm Line. At Kjosfossen waterfall, the train will stop to allow passengers to take photos before terminating at Flåm station, on the Sognefjord, from where we can walk back to the ship. FLA05 - HIKING IN THE FLAM VALLEY - Duration: approx. 4 hours - 2012
Dig out your walking boots and be sure to carry your camera as this excursion takes you on a stunning scenic tour that is best admired on foot and which merits being captured in time ! We will leave the pier for a short transfer to the Railway station and board a train for one of the most dramatic train ride in Europe; the Flam Railways, which climbs steeply up from sea level to 867 metres high over a distance of just 20 km. However, the train chugs along slowly, allowing ample time to take photographs or to capture the fabulous Kjosfossen waterfall on film. At Vatnahalsen, we can enjoy coffee and homemade waffles which will provide welcome sustenance before we hike down the wild and beautiful Flam Valley for about 3 hours. FLA06 - NÆRØYFJORD & STALHEIM - Duration: approx. 4 hours - 2012
The tour starts with a short walk from your ship to the pier in front of the railway station. Here you will board the sightseeing boat taking you on a 2 hours cruise on the Aurlandsfjord and the Nærøyfjord. The cruise offers some of the most beautiful and wildest part of the Sognefjord, saling in a setting of steep, snow-clad mountains, wild waterfalls and a living cultural landscape before disembarking in Gudvangen. The excursion will then continue by bus through the narrow and impressive Nærøydalen Valley with its many waterfalls before arriving at the fashionable Stalheim Hotel, some 1237 feet above sea level for coffee break ; you will drive along the old mountain road called Stalheimskleivi. Drive down to Gudvangen and pass Stalheimsfossen and the Sivlefossen waterfalls ; this last fall has a three fall of 240 metres : the road is very steep with 13 sharp hairpin bends. The last part of the tour will be through the tunnel that was opened just a few years ago ; after a 20 minutes ride under the mountains you will arrive at the pier in Flam.Note : limited seats.
