La Coruna

If you think you know Spain, it might be time to think again. La Coruna is a busy port town located in Galicia, north-west Spain a region rather like the south west of England in that it's very green with a fabulous coast line.

Welcome to the ‘green heart’ of Spain

Cruise from Southampton to La Coruna and discover that there's much more to Spain and Spanish cruises than beaches on the famous Costas! In La Coruna you'll find a welcome  break from these other, better-known destinations. Here, in verdent Galicia, you'll see another side of Spain and discover a landscape that will remind you more of Cornwall or Wales than the more arid parts of the Iberian Peninsular.

La Coruna has a wide range of good museums and attractions, ideal for children and adults of all ages; take your pick from the Picasso Museum, the interactive House of Humankind (the first of its kind dedicated to the human being), MACUF, the contemporary art museum, the Fine Arts museum or the aquarium.

Our excursion programmes will help you get the most out of the city as well as those 'must see' places like Santiago de Compostela, the ‘city of pilgrims’, a very special place to visit during your cruise. Alternatively, why not just slip ashore and sample some authentic Galican cuisine? It almost goes without saying that the local seafood is excellent.

Port average temperature

The climate of A Coruna is temperate maritime and heavily moderated by the Atlantic Ocean; however it does display some characteristics of a Mediterranean climate. Autumn and winter are often unsettled and unpredictable with strong winds and abundant rainfall, coming from Atlantic depressions and it is often overcast. The ocean keeps temperatures mild, and frost and snow are rare.

In summer, it is quite dry and sunny with only occasional rainfall temperatures are warm but rarely uncomfortably hot due to the sea's cooling influence during the day. Spring is usually cool and fairly calm.

The temperate figures shown are based on monthly average weather conditions for the selected port. Weather data is not real-time, and sometimes no data is shown for a specific date, month or port in general.
