Gibraltar

'The Rock' as Gibraltar is affectionately known, soars 1400 feet above the Mediterranean. This massive limestone fortress contains over a hundred caves, worn away in the soft rock. It is easy to get right to the top – either via cable car or, for the more energetic, a longish hike, a worthwhile walk, as you can see Africa on a clear day - watch out for the Barbary Apes though, they're expert thieves!

British passengers can stock up on quality food and clothes in the local Marks & Spencers stores or take the opportunity to sample perhaps the only decent pint of bitter to be found in the entire Mediterranean! Gibraltar is actually tiny, composed of just four square miles, and hence it's a perfect cruise destination. A tour of the caves provides a fascinating insight into the Rock's military past.
