MSC FOR ABF

With you, to bring education and hope to thousands of children
With you, to bring education and hope to thousands of children

In December 2017, MSC launched a new partnership to support some of the most disadvantaged communities in Haiti, one of the poorest countries in the world.
Our partner is the Andrea Bocelli Foundation (ABF), founded by Andrea Bocelli, acclaimed worldwide as one of the greatest exponents of the Italian vocal tradition.
MSC will support ABF’s Health and Educational Projects in Haiti, collecting funds on board MSC Seaside. The initiative is linked to ABF’s new worldwide fundraising campaign “WITH YOU”, accompanied by the famous song “Con te partirò”, a perfect fit with MSC.

The work of ABF in Haiti

Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world and faces exceptional challenges:
There is little infrastructure – sewers, water and electricity. The few hospitals are in poor condition. 56% of people suffer from malnutrition and 1 in 3 children die from this or a curable disease before they’re 5. Half of Haiti’s children don’t go to school and the average life expectancy is no more than 55.
The Andrea Bocelli Foundation addresses these problems following a systematic approach that has already achieved impressive results in just six years:
  • 5 schools have been built in 5 of the most marginalized and remote communities
  • 2,550 students have been enabled to attend school
  • 8,049 people receive regular health care from the ABF Mobile Clinic
  • 1 multipurpose community centre has been established in the Cité Soleil slum
  • 400,000 slum dwellers are assisted every day
MSC is supporting these integrated programmes centred on Health, Education and Empowerment, focusing in particular on the crucial work of the ABF Mobile Clinic project. This health care assistance and prevention programme benefits over 8,000 people per year in the 5 poorest and most remote areas of the country, providing medical consultations, treatments, vaccines and training.

A fundraising campaign on board MSC Seaside will ask guests to contribute, emphasising that, together, even a small donation can make a big difference.

Mobile Clinic

Building a healthy foundation for the future
Building a healthy foundation for the future

Whatever we do, good health means we can give it our best.

A good education depends not only on the students’ health, but also on that of their teachers, families and communities.

ABF’s unique integrated approach supports this with the free ongoing health care assistance and prevention programme of its Mobile Clinic.

Every three months, a well-equipped staff of doctors and nurses visits the communities of each of the ABF’s 5 schools in the poorest and most remote areas of the country for a period of 3 to 5 days, providing lifesaving medical care and medicines, vaccinations, screening, counselling and health education.

The Mobile Clinic looks after a total of 2,849 school children aged 2 to 24 and 6,000 direct beneficiaries, including the pupils’ families and school staff, plus a further 16,075 indirect beneficiaries in the surrounding communities, benefiting a total of 24,925 people.
