Update on extension of fleet-wide halting
of operations through to 31 october

We’re glad to announce that our two flagships, MSC Grandiosa and MSC Magnifica, will resume operations in the Mediterranean starting from 16 and 29 August 2020 respectively, offering guests from Schengen countries full-experience cruise holidays.

The two ships will be the first to implement a new operating protocol that has been designed to protect the health and safety of guests, crew as well as the local communities that the Company’s ships visit. For this reason, it meets and goes beyond guidelines provided by key international and regional regulatory and technical bodies, as well as regulations set forth by the governments in the countries in which MSC Cruises ships operate. Additionally, RINA, the independent maritime certification corporation, has verified that the protocol meets the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) Guidance, which incorporates additional health standards including those from the EU Healthy Gateways Joint Action. We have worked to encompass every aspect of the guest’s journey, from the moment of booking to embarkation, life on board and through to the return back home, whilst preserving the uniqueness of the guest experience.

For this initial phase of the restart of operations, the two MSC Cruises ships operating in the Mediterranean for the current summer season will initially welcome guests who are residents in Schengen countries only (Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Greece, Spain, France, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Hungary, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Slovakia, Finland, Sweden and Switzerland).

CANADA & NEW ENGLAND, MSC MERAVIGLIA CRUISES - Announcement June 24th, 2020

Due to the decision of the Government of Canada to prohibit cruise ships carrying more than 100 people from operating in Canadian waters until October 31, 2020, MSC Cruises made the difficult decision to cancel our three 10-night sailings on MSC Meraviglia from New York to Canada & New England as well as the two repositioning cruises from Northern Europe to New York and from New York to Miami.

  • Our compensation policy will apply to these cruises as well and our guests will receive a Future Cruise Credit (FCC) that can be used on any sailing departing on or before 31 December 2021.
  • To find out more on our compensation Policy, please click here.

For all cruises cancelled by MSC, guests will receive a voucher with a Future Cruise Credit (FCC) equal to the value of the amount collected by MSC Cruises for the cancelled cruise, to be utilized for a future cruise on any ship and itinerary of the fleet departing up to December 31st 2021. On top of the above Future Cruise Credit (FCC), once starting the new cruise, guests will receive an additional 25% cruise credit of the original cruise package paid. To find out how to get your Future Cruise Credit and move your upcoming cruise, please check the “Compensation Packages” by clicking here.

In addition, if requested, MSC Cruises will guarantee for all existing bookings on cruises sailing until October 31st (not cancelled by MSC) the Flexible Cruise Programme already in place. Guests will be able to reschedule their cruise to a future departure date through to 31 December 2021 of any ship and itinerary of the MSC Cruises fleet at no additional costs. To find out more on the Flexible Cruise Programme, please click here.

I cancelled my cruise right before MSC Cruises communicated the cancellation decision. Will the same policy apply?

The cruise credit note listed in the table above applies only to the cancelled cruises originated by MSC Cruises in relation with the COVID-19 situation worldwide.

What will be the value of the Future Cruise Credit Note?

- For all bookings related to cancelled cruises, MSC Cruises will issue a refund credit note with a value equal to the amount already paid to MSC Cruises, net of refunds, and will include an additional credit for 25% of the original cruise package value.

- For bookings confirmed but not yet paid in full, MSC Cruises will only issue a refund credit note with additional credit for 25% of the original cruise package value granted as a further benefit for the cancelled cruises.

How and when will the Future Cruise Credit voucher be issued? Will it be sent to me?

You will receive the Future Cruise Credit note for each booking which sailing has been cancelled by MSC Cruises. The vouchers will be emailed directly to you, detailing the relevant booking number and booking conditions. This voucher will enable you to reschedule the future cruise, for any departure on or before December 31, 2021 If you booked through a travel agency, the voucher will be sent directly to the Travel Agent.

What happens if I want to book a more expensive cruise than the voucher value? Or a less expensive cruise?

If the future booking is of higher value than the original one, you will have to pay the difference. If the future booking is of less value than the original one, you will have the opportunity to add-on packages to your future cruise (beverage packages, Excursions, etc…) and leverage the voucher value for such usage up until it is fully spent.

Will the Future Cruise Credit be combinable with any promotion, including special rates and groups?

The Future Cruise Credit functions like a currency so it can be combined with any promotion, or used for confirming a booking as part of a group. For MSC Voyagers Club members, it can also be combined with our MSC Voyages selection departures.

What is the additional 25% cruise credit? How can it be used?

As an additional benefit we are pleased to give you an additional credit for 25% of the original cruise package paid. This additional credit must be used in conjunction with your 100% Cruise Credit and is combinable with any existing promotion. The additional 25% credit has to be applied on the same cruise as the 100% cruise credit and is non-refundable.

I have booked a Caribbean Cruise departing before October 31st. What happens to my booking?

We confirmed the voluntarily further extension of the halt of operations of our ships operating from U.S. ports in the Caribbean until October 31st, 2020. The announcement impacts two ships, MSC Seaside and MSC Armonia, that were previously scheduled to sail in the region during this time period. Guests affected by the cancelled cruises will receive a Future Cruise Credit (FCC) by the end of August, where they have the opportunity to transfer the full amount paid for their cancelled cruise to a future cruise of their choice – on any ship, for any itinerary -- through to the end of 2021.

I have booked a Mediterranean cruise for summer 2020 before October 31st . What happens to my cruise?

If you’re not part of Schengen countries you won’t be able to sail onboard MSC Grandiosa and MSC Magnifica, therefore regular cancellation policies apply (Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Greece, Spain, France, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Hungary, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Slovakia, Finland, Sweden and Switzerland).

What if I am unsure about my new date of cruising?

The Future Cruise Credit note must be redeemed, and your future cruise booked by 31st January 2021 and can be applied to any sailing departing on or before December 31, 2021. The Future Cruise Credit is non-transferable, non-refundable.

Is it possible to extend the validity of the Future Cruise Credit voucher?

No, the voucher’s validity is non-extendable. It must be used for any future sailings departing before December 31, 2021. Should you be unable to redeem your Future Cruise Credit you are entitled to apply for a refund equal to the original amount of the cruise fare paid only and the additional 25% will not be included.

Can I give my voucher to another person who wants to book ?

The Future Cruise Credit note is related to each specific booking which original sailing has been cancelled by MSC Cruises. It cannot be transferred. For vouchers related to groups, a voucher will be issued and sent to the travel agency.

Can I use the voucher for multiple cruises?

The Future Cruise credit note can be applied only to one future cruise only once.

Once I decide when to schedule my next cruise, how should I proceed to activate the voucher and book a new cruise?

- If you booked directly with MSC through our consumer website or through our contact centre: To redeem your future cruise credit note please get in touch with our contact center and be ready to provide the original booking number, as well as your preferred cruise date.

- If you booked through a travel agency: To redeem your Future Cruise Credit note please get in touch directly with your travel agent. Be ready to provide your initial booking number as well as the new preferred cruise date.

Please consider that MSC Cruises is currently facing a high demand of requests. This might cause a delay in our standard services. We apologize for any inconvenience it may cause and thank you for your patience.

I have already redeemed my voucher for a new cruise which is now cancelled. What happens to it?

Such situation can happen as we are forced to periodically extend the halting of our ship operations. For such cases, you will once again be eligible for our Future Cruise Credit program as highlighted below:
A new FCC voucher will be issued. Its value will be equal to the payment received by MSC Cruises, net of any refund.
The new Future Cruise Credit note will still grant eligibility for the additional 25% on top of the original cruise fare, which was cancelled at first.

What happens to purchased pre-cruise items on a sailing that is now cancelled (ex. Shore excursions, spa, drink packages, etc.)?

Please note the Future Cruise Credit excludes any items paid using ‘My Area’ through the MSC Cruises website. These will be refunded directly to the original method of payment within 120 days. Please note that exceptions may apply by country. If your purchase was made via your travel agent, please contact them directly.

What if I have a Cruise & Fly package booked through MSC Cruises? Will it be included in the voucher value?

Flights will be included as part of the Future Cruise credit note, if booked through MSC Cruises. For example, if the cruise fare is £500, and the flight is £300 guests will receive total Future Cruise credit of £800. For flights and transfers booked independently from MSC Cruises, this must be checked directly with the relevant service provider.

If I was originally traveling with a friend, and at the time of re-booking he/she doesn't want to travel, will he/she get a refund?

The full value of the Future Cruise Credit note will apply to the future booking. MSC will not provide several vouchers related to 1 single original booking.

Does the voucher issue also apply to groups?

For groups bookings for which MSC Cruises has already been fully or partially paid, the Future Cruise Credit note will be issued and sent to the travel agency, for the same amount initially paid net of any amount refunded. No individual voucher will be generated for group bookings. For groups confirmed but not booked, no voucher will be issued. For more information please contact your Travel agent.
